Moth trap numbers have declined sharply with the change in the weather. However, I was pleased to see a very small plume moth in the trap yesterday morning, which proved to be a Small Plume, a new one for the site. Off to Dunge yesterday where the forecast of heavy rain fortunately proved incorrect, with just 2 or 3 short showers in the morning and a dry afternoon. We did manage to see a few interesting birds but insects were keeping low in breezy conditions. Highlights were|: 3 Little Ringed Plovers on the ARC pit. An Arctic Skua was chasing a Sandwich Tern near the Fishing Boats and after lunch on the main part of the RSPB reserve there were 5 Great White Egrets, 2 Buzzards, 3 Common Sandpipers, 3 Greenshanks, 7 Redshanks, 2 Garganey, a Kingfisher and a Wheatear.
